What is weapons evolution?

Before you learn how to evolve your weapons properly and what are the best combinations for weapons evolution, let’s discover the general information about this system.

  • Evolution – “a fundamental mechanic in Vampire Survivors that changes the base version of the weapon to its improved version. Evolutions require you to fully evolve the gun and the proper passive item or weapon as a catalyst.” – Vampire Survivors Fandom

Evolution doesn’t happen as you level up. To get weapons evolved, you must open the Treasure Chest, which is dropped once the mini-boss is defeated. Once all the conditions are met, the Treasure Chest will bring the empowered weapon with a 100% chance.

Following the proper strategy, you can evolve the first weapon within ten minutes of the run. Still, sometimes RNG might play a devil joke on you. Don’t be surprised if the proper catalyst won’t drop 20 level-ups in a row.

Boosts From Evolution

In the Vampire Survivors beginners guide and this article, we’ve told you that evolution significantly boosts the weapon, making it multiple times more potent. Still, we haven’t told you which specific improvements you can get by evolving weapons.

While everything significantly depends on the weapon and catalyst, below are the most widespread boosts you can get from evolution:

  • Speed
  • Might
  • Duration
  • Amount
  • Cooldown
  • Area

The best evolutions in Vampire Survivors boost the most powerful from these stats. Still, getting them might be challenging.

How to Evolve in Vampire Survivors Fast

Focus on a Single Weapon

We highly recommend you focus on a single one to ensure the quick evolution of your first weapon. Although there may arise situations where you may need to evolve two weapons simultaneously, it is recommended to refer to the Tier List in the screenshot below to identify the more powerful one and prioritize its evolution.

We also understand that issues with getting catalysts might arise. Don’t make it a big problem. Be patient, kill monsters, and you’ll get the weapon evolved quickly.

Create the Route

Have you ever considered the importance of creating a route in Vampire Survivors? We bet more than 50% had never had it in mind.

To collect Experience Gems effectively, it’s essential to have a particular route that will always return to the starting point. A circular route is the most straightforward and versatile option, as it can be applied to any level. Even the map borders are not a problem if you follow the circular route.

Using a circular route may become dull. As you get more experience, we highly recommend you create multiple particular ways and mix them to avoid making the game monotonous.

Don’t avoid enemies

Many new players avoid enemies, believing it will allow them to survive longer. The reality is different and a bit cruel.

The longer you want to survive, the more enemies you must kill. Of course, it also affects evolving weapons. You must kill thousands of monsters to get multiple weapons evolved.

So, don’t waste your time! Being actively involved in the fight from the first seconds of the round is highly beneficial!

If you don’t mind using cheat codes, there is a better option for getting Grim Grimoire. Players can unlock this Relic by casting a spell ‘thisshouldhavebeenunlockedbydefault’. It instantly adds Grim Grimoire to your account.

Best Evolution Combinations in Vampire Survivors

Once you know everything about evolution, let’s continue with the most exciting part of this guide. We’ll tell you the best evolutions you can make in Vampire Survivors.

And to spice things up, we also created a short guide for each evolution shown in this article. They can help you to choose the most suitable evolutions from the list.

Gorgeous Moon

Recipe: Pentagram + Crown

Many players will disagree, but Gorgeous Moon is one of the best weapons in Vampire Survivors. Gorgeous Moon can kill any monster despite HP and other stats, so it’s extremely helpful on each level.

The principle difference between Pentagram and Gorgeous Moon is that the evolved weapon has a significantly reduced cooldown. It allows Gorgeous Moon to solve the main problem of Pentagram.

Photo: Poncle

Gorgeous Moon is not perfect. Pentagram and Crown, required to get Moon, are considered one of the worst items in Vampire Survivors. Because of the long cooldown, using them at the beginning makes you highly vulnerable.

We strongly recommend avoiding evolving Gorgeous Moon as the first weapon. Get evolved some high-DPS weapons before starting to evolve Gorgeous Moon. Continue reading the guide; you’ll find the preferred guns for this role.

Thousand Edge

Photo: Reddit

Recipe: Knife + Bracer

Honestly, I didn’t grasp the true power of Thousand Edge when I was a beginner. Although I used Bracer in every game, I never intended to evolve it to Thousand Edge. It was probably the biggest mistake that players can make in Vampire Survivors.

Thousand Edge is a versatile weapon available to all players from the start. It becomes accessible through Gennaro, who has a valuable passive boost of +1 Projectile for all weapons.

Photo: Poncle

Thousand Edge is the endless wave of knives that follows the player’s direction. It is three times faster than the precedeetor, which makes it one of the swiftest weapons in the game.

When finding mistakes, I struggle to point out at least one. Thousand Edge is versatile as the primary weapon and can be used in every game’s stages. Still, we highly recommend you use it with Gennaro to reach the performance with knives.

Death Spiral

Photo: Reddit

Recipe: Axe + Candelabrador

Death Spiral is another weapon that ranks as Thousand Edge and Gorgeous Moon. It is mighty, even being an Axe, the primary shape of Death Spiral in Vampire Survivors.

Spiral fires nine spinning scythes around the player. Compared to the Axe, Death Spiral can pass through more enemies. Moreover, each Scythe has a more extensive attack range, paying for it with damage reduction.

Regarding disadvantages, Death Spiral is insufficient for the role of the first evolution during the run. Axe poorly works against crowds of enemies, meaning you must have robust AoE damage to get Death Spiral.

Consider that Lama Ladonna is the only character who uses Axe as the starting weapon. She is a useless low-tier hero, which is another problem of Axe in Vampire Survivors.

If you don’t mind using cheats, Death Spiral is the starting weapon of Mask of the Red Death. It is one of the most potent secret characters obtained using the code ‘ablasphemousmockery’.

Phieraggi

Photo: Reddit

Recipe: Phiera Del Tuphello + Eight The Sparrow + Tiragisu

While many experts consider that Phieraggi is the most potent weapon in Vampire Survivors, our opinion differs. Due to inaccessibility for the average player, we put Phieraggi lower than alternatives. Players must use both union and evolution to get Phieraggi. It might be problematic even for the experienced survivors.

Phieraggi is a weapon that shoots four lasers that circle the character. These lasers have slightly decreased Intervals and Knockback. Still, it’s the price for the ability to pass through walls.

Phieraggi possesses an exclusive ability to interact with players’ revival. The weapon gets the following boosts for each unused Revival:

  • +1 Amount
  • +1 Base Damage

Each of these improvements has a cap of 10, which is high enough to transform Phieraggi into an overpowered weapon.

When it comes to disadvantages, everything is evident. To get Phieraggi, you must have Phiera Del Tuphello and Eight The Sparrow at level 8. It takes two weapons slots and requires twice as much time as the classic evolution.

Unholy Vespers

Photo: Reddit

Recipe: King Bible + Spellbinder

90% of players will agree that Unholy Vespers is worth the place in the list of best weapons in Vampire Survivors. The other 10% simply haven’t tried this ultimately powerful weapon yet.

Unholy Vespers creates a ring of books around the players that are spinning clockwise and deal damage to enemies approaching it. It is powerful even being King Bible, which has a too-long cooldown and must be paired with another high-DPS weapon.

Compared to the precedeetor, Unholy Vespers is much more powerful. It has significantly improved Area, Speed, and Amount. Also, the weapon has the same Cooldown as the Duration, which creates the illusion that this weapon never ends.

If you want to reach the highest effectiveness with Unholy Vespers, feel free to use it with Garlic, which can later evolve into Soul Eater. Combinations of these weapons create a deadly circle around the player, preventing all the enemies from reaching you.

Photo: Poncle

When it comes to disadvantages, Vespers has 1.7 seconds of Hibox Delay. It means enemies approaching you can be damaged with Unholy Vespers every 1.7 seconds. The significant damage compensates for it, but it’s still insufficient for the role of the primary weapon.

La Borra

Photo: Reddit

Recipe: Santa Water + Attractorb

La Borra is the last weapon in our list of the most potent Evolutions. Still, it doesn’t mean La Borra is the worst on the list.

La Borra rains down bottles of holy water from the sky. When breaking upon the ground, these bottles leave puddles that instantly catch on fire and deal damage to the enemies.

La Borra has the same Cooldown and Duration equal to four seconds. You can increase the Duration to nine seconds using a limit break, making La Borra the most potent weapon in Vampire Survivors.

Still, La Borra is only suitable for a small percentage of players. This weapon and its predecessor Santa Water have high skill requirements. Players must always be in the middle of the puddles to deal the most significant damage with La Borra.

La Borra’s evolution requires Attractorb – one of the worst passive items in the game. It gives a bonus to the Magnet stat, which appears useless. Be ready to face it once evolving Santa Water.

Conclusion
