The first thing that the player needs to do is select the region that they wish to defend. You will start these during the tutorial as an introduction to the story, but really quickly you will be able to select regions on your own.

Each of the gates is its own level and your main objective will be to destroy all towers within each gate and therefore close it and stop the demons from coming into your realm.

These may range from using specific units to completely eliminating enemy forces and everything in between. Completing these additional objectives will grant the player stars.

All stars that the player earns will be accumulated and as the player obtains more stars, new and greater rewards will become available.
Buildings
After winning enough battles and freeing a piece of land from the demons’ grasp, you will unlock the ability to construct and upgrade buildings on that plot of land.

Most of the actual combat is automatic and your units and heroes will attack and move on their own. However this does not apply to the ultimate ability of your heroes. They can only be activated by the player once they are charged up which occurs when the icon of the hero turns yellow.

In order to get new heroes and expand your hero roster, you will be required to summon them. This can be done once for free or in exchange for various in-game currencies such as sapphires and rubies.

Summoning is also this game’s gacha mechanic which means that heroes that you unlock are random. Furthermore, players can also unlock multiple instances of the same hero. Should this occur, the new hero will be turned into experience and the original will be turned into resources.
