Shield Skins in Monopoly Go are acquired through various means, with the most common source being time-limited events.
Time-limited events give players certain tasks or missions in-game, and players earn points for these tasks, which are then used to automatically unlock various rewards during the event.
These tasks are also fairly easy to do, and you will notice that you are earning points simply by playing and progressing the game normally.
Time-limited featured events are also commonly themed, so expect these events to begin during holidays, or when the game reaches certain milestones.
The Shield Skin you obtain during these events will also be themed accordingly, so be sure to check the game and its social media every once in a while!
Net Worth Levels

You can also get Themed Shields by reaching certain net worth levels. Your net worth level increases each time you upgrade a landmark and is the main goal of the game. As long as you progress the game, you should reach these net worth levels in no time, and unlock various Themed Shields!
Quick Wins

Another way to obtain Skin Shields is by completing the Quick Wins. Quick Wins are daily tasks that give players random rewards and are refreshed daily. Currently, there is no way to know if the reward you will obtain from a Quick Win will be a Shield Skin, so just keep on completing those daily missions for more chances of getting a Themed Shield!
Shield Skins also appear as Weekly Prizes for the Quick Wins every now and then. Weekly Prizes can be obtained by completing a set number of Quick Wins, which means you need to play and complete the daily tasks every day to obtain the Weekly Reward.
You can check the Weekly Reward beforehand to see if the reward for the week is a Shield Skin since these rewards also refresh weekly.
Leaderboard Rewards
Another way to obtain Shield Skins in Monopoly GO is by being part of the top 5 of the leaderboard. Previously, the top 5 in the Leaderboard were awarded a Shield Skin during the month of September.
Getting a Shield Skin this way is significantly harder since you have competition, but if you have been playing the game for quite some time, and you are confident in your game progress, you can definitely aim for the leaderboard to snag a Shield Skin for free!
What Are Shields?
Shields protect your landmarks from being attacked during a Shut Down. While your shield is up, other players will also receive reduced rewards, and you get to keep more of your cash.

Shields are obtained by landing on certain properties on your board. The shields on your board appear randomly, and will always appear on a different property once you take one.
There is also a limit to how many shields you can store, and picking up more shields will not exceed the limit, essentially hindering you from stockpiling on shields.
