What you have to give the most focus to, however, has to be how you’re sometimes asked to make decisions on what to do or what to day.
For example, the first decision you’re asked to make is to either stay in your room or go outside to explore. These types of decisions have the potential to change the entire course of the game.

However, when it comes to writing your own story and getting the conclusion you want, it’s crucial that you start building your bond with your favorite characters from the get-go.

By increasing your bond, or affinity, with a particular character, you’ll unlock affinity events. Through these events, you’ll learn even more about that character and get the opportunity to get closer to him.
You can check your affinity at any time by interacting with your notebook in your room.

In addition to simply reading text and making decisions, there are other mechanics in Lovebrush Chronicles that allow you to progress in the story. The first one you’ll come across in the game will be the inspiration collection.

Occasionally, you’ll be sent into the overworld in a chibi version where you’ll see several characters.
Interact with the ones with bubbles on their heads to gather inspiration. Gather enough inspiration to fill the bar on the top right and go through the short mini-game to acquire a sketch.
You can also send the sketch you make to a character to get some brownie points.

Additionally, the game is divided into several different chapters. The first one, for example, will have you go through different areas of your school.
You want to go through all the missions of every chapter in chronological order in order to progress to the next chapter.

Now, it isn’t as though all the missions, or stories, just have walls of text in them. On the contrary, there are three types of stories in Lovebrush Chronicles.
- The first one has, well, a lot of words. These stories are symbolized by open books and have you reading what other characters say while making your own decisions.
- The second type of story has your character sketch someone or something they see during the course of that mission. You often have the choice to choose between what you want your sketch to look like.
- Finally, the last type of story is when you battle against enemies using your acquired Illustra.
Collect and Use Different Illustras

Now that we’ve gone through how you can change your story, it’s time to go through what we’re sure so many of you are waiting for; collecting gorgeous characters.
Players have the ability to acquire, use, and upgrade all sorts of character illustrations (which are called Illustras in this game).

Additionally, all Illustras also have different rankings. You can learn more about rarities and the best characters to use, but the gist of it is that the four different character rarities are:
- N: Common and the weakest cards
- R: Rare but average in strength
- SR: Usually acquired by progressing in the main story. They’re significantly stronger than Rare cards
- SSR: These are the strongest cards. However, they’re usually only obtainable by getting lucky in banner draws
Also, every Illustra also has one of four typing. Their typing can be Intensity, Color, Design, or Emotion.
Collecting Husbandos

Firstly, there’s collecting Illustras. Now, there are multiple ways to unlock new illustras, but two methods stand out as being the most reliable.

The first method is acquiring Illustras of characters you make sketchings of while progressing through the main story.
Do you remember when we said there were different types of story missions in Lovebrush Chronicles? Well, every time you sketch a new character in a sketch practice story, you unlock that illustration as an Illustra.

The second method is one that fans of gacha games like Honkai: Star Rail and Genshin Impact will be very familiar with.
That’s right, it’s also possible to acquire new Illustras by rolling in one of the many available banners. Just don’t get pulled into the never-ending spiral of gacha addictiveness.

To access the banner, you simply have to go to the menu (your room/HUB area) and tap on the ‘gallery’ option. Here, you can choose from the multiple banners running during that time.
Upgrading Your Illustras
Beyond the rarity tiers, every character has three specific starts that can be upgraded.

When you interact with any card in your inventory, you’ll get the option to level it up using materials you likely acquired either by progressing in the story or completing quests/achievements. By leveling up an Illustra, you increase its HP stat, attack, and defense stat.
In addition to leveling characters up in Lovebrush Chronicles, you’re also able to level up individual skills of your Illustras.
You should focus on leveling up skills that are actually useful in battle, as otherwise, you might find yourself running short of material in Lovebrush Chronicles.

Finally, if you find a character or Illustra that you REALLY like, you also have the option to ascend them. You should go to the ascension info of an Illustra when interacting with it to learn how you can ascend it.
It’s Battling Time
That’s right, Lovebrush Chronicles also has you battling against various different types of enemies.
Fortunately, the overall battle system is fairly straightforward and easy to understand, though you should remember that stories/missions with battles consume some of your energy.

You start by making your team. You do this by tapping an empty spot when on the team formation team before a battle.
You get the option to select any of the Illustra in your collection to add to your team.
Of course, we recommend you go for the ones that are high in rarity and level. If all the characters are of the same type then you get an additional buff you can take advantage of.

When in the actual battle, you and the enemy take turns attacking each other. Starting from the left, you have to tap on which enemy you want that specific Illustra to attack and then repeat the process until all of your characters have a target.
You can also remove an Illustra’s target by dragging the picture of that character down.

When all of your characters have a target selected, simply tap the ‘attack’ button on the bottom right of the screen which will prompt your characters to attack. After your turn, the enemy gets a turn to attack you.
Naturally, both your characters and the enemy characters also have health bars. If the health of any character hits zero then that character will be defeated. The goal is to defeat all the enemy characters on the screen without letting any of your characters die.
Ultimate Abilities in Lovebrush Chronicles

The final thing we want to go through in terms of battling in Lovebrush Chronicles is the ultimate ability mechanic. Under the health bar of every Illustra is a yellow bar that fills up every time that Illustra deals or takes damage.
Once it’s full, you can tap on the ultimate ability icon that pops up under that bar and then tap on the enemy you want to use that ability on to unleash your ultimate attack.

Every character in Lovebrush Chronicles has a unique ultimate attack, and some attacks require you to interact with the character. For example, some characters might ask you to choose between two choices, and choosing the right one will grant the character a buff.
